Barbara Permission Letter
February 18, 2011
Dear Mr. and Mrs. John Doe,

As you know from participating in Abby’s IEP meeting, her goal is to improve writing skills so that she is successful during her high school career, college, and future employment. We have spent the beginning of the year evaluating writing samples and Abby has learned to determine what constitutes effective writing for conveying stories and research papers. She has written a variety of essays and used rubrics to evaluate her own writing. As you know from her progress reports, she is making nice gains in regards to becoming an effective writer.

In today’s global market, Abby will not only need to be able to be an effective communicator, she will need to develop other 21st Century Skills. These skills include digital age literacy, inventive thinking, high productivity, and collaborating. I would like to have Abby create an interactive multimedia project that encompasses her IEP goal and these skills. The project is to create an on-line interactive story. She will be required to share this project on the web as well, either through posting on Hi, Let’s Connect, her Facebook page, or her English class’ school webpage.

Abby is very excited to begin her Written Language Interactive Multimedia Project (IMP) on Tuesday, March 1st. Next week, I will be working with Abby on exploring technology tools she may be using in her project.

Building an interactive multimedia project requires using the internet. It also requires patience and persistence as students learn and apply new skills. Abby will be working on her project during my sessions with her, but I would like her to work on this project at home as well. I expect her to work on her IMP approximately 30 minutes each day in order to finish by April 19th. Please make this a goal, and try to allot time into her evening and weekend schedule to allow for this. Between my scheduled sessions with Abby, you and/or Abby can call or email me if you run into any technical difficulties and/or need feedback on the project. Connecting between sessions will allow us to monitor her progress as she takes on this project.

Abby will have a time line that will be kept in the IMP planning folder you will be reviewing with her. This folder contains a description of the project, an evaluation rubric, suggested topics that are compatible with our State Learning Standards, and the goals and objectives for the project. Should Abby lose her folder or any of the pieces inside, I will send you an electronic copy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

Barbara
